Lowell Gym Gives Back to Community
2021 was a record-setting year for Best Fitness members and staff who raised a total of $21,000 for the American Cancer Society. The Best Fitness and American Cancer Society partnership dates back over a decade, with success growing larger each year. Donations directly impact those who need help most while they battle cancer and receive treatment. Funds go to support transportation to treatment, lodging and more for patients. Through a combination of member donations, workouts competitions, pop-up classes and community events, we’re able to give back to our communities and our neighbors.
More than 10 years ago, Best Fitness partnered with the American Cancer Society to help fund raise throughout the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Our members and staff look forward each year to the pink T-shirts inside the clubs, the pop-up specialty classes inside our studios, and more recently, workout challenges inside the clubs.
In 2021, we saw amazing success with our “Push Back Against Breast Cancer” competition. Members can sponsor staff for any dollar amount and the staff member has to perform that amount of push-ups at the end of the month. Some Personal Trainers and instructors really got a taste of their own medicine! Members could even opt to compete in the competition themselves if they wanted to go up against staff for a great cause. Best Fitness would then match the donated amount and add that total to our American Cancer Society donation. The overall highest fundraiser (the one who had to perform the most push ups) won a cash prize from Best Fitness.
We added specialty pop-up classes to the schedule where members could donate to take 90-minute classes, classes that fused together two of their favorites like cycling and yoga into one and even some outdoor group training classes.
The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event returned to the outdoors this year after going virtual in 2020. Our Personal Trainers and Instructors were there to help the walk’s participants get warmed up and ready and even hosted an outdoor Zumba class for hundreds of people to attend!
